Longest bridal veil makes it to record books

Guinness glory of Sharjah Wedding Show triggers 40% rise in visitor turnout on day one

Sharjah, 6 March 2014

The ninth Perfect Wedding Show made history on Wednesday (March 5), when the world's longest bridal veil launched during its opening day made its way into the records book.

The five km-long veil was unveiled at Expo Centre Sharjah by Rozana Hospitality in the presence of visitors who had gathered to watch history being made at the region's most sought-after wedding fair.

It broke the record held by a Lebanese designer's 3.3 km veil, and successfully entered the Guinness Book of World Records. The silk tulle veil that weighs about seven kg and adorned with crystals and pearls at its first five metres by well-known fashion designer Hany El Behairy is now on display at the Perfect Wedding Show.

“This is for the first time in the history of more than three-and-a-half decades that Expo Centre Sharjah is making it to the record books, courtesy the Perfect Wedding Show and the world's longest bridal veil,” said Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah.

Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records were present during the unveiling of the bridal veil to assess the merit in claims by Rozana Hospitality. Rozana Hospitality was presented with a Guinness certificate.

Mr. Midfa also stressed on the popularity enjoyed by the Perfect Wedding Show in the regional market, which was cited as a key factor that prompted Rozana Hospitality to choose Expo Centre Sharjah for unveiling the bridal veil.

The launch of the veil also led to a surge in the visitor turnout, with the day one footfalls registering a 38 per cent rise to 3,957 from last year's 2,852. The total visitor turnout for the 2013 show stood at 19,040.

“It was not just prospective couples but all those who were keen to watch the unveiling of the bridal veil turned up at Expo Centre Sharjah. Now, couples have an opportunity to bid for the veil, add an element of exclusivity and make their wedding a truly memorable event,” Mr. Midfa added.

Two other factors that attracted visitors to the show included fashion shows by leading international design houses and designers and the chance to win a fully-sponsored ‘Royal Wedding Package'.

Expo Centre has lined up daily fashion shows focusing on bridal wear by Hany El Behairy, Fouad Sarkis, Dar Mona Al Mansouri, Dar Sara, Litchi and Emirati designer Aisha Al Muhairi, among others.

“Bridal fashion shows are the best way to shop for your wedding dress or gain ideas since they offer you a chance to see collections come to life on the catwalk. Our daily fashion shows will be a must visit for those looking for a perfect bridal wear which is stylish and fashion-forward,” Mr. Midfa added.

The ‘Royal Wedding Package' can be termed as a one-of-its-kind gift for the most important day in a couple's life. The package, which can be won through a raffle draw, consists of a five-star ballroom for the couple and their guests, a bridal beauty package, Kosha decoration and a honeymoon trip to Istanbul.

The show is open from 3pm to 10pm daily. A play area is available for children under 12 years since they won't be allowed inside the exhibition halls.
