Many people focus all their energy on their facial skin care regimen and neglect the rest of their body. Everyone has a different type of skin, which is genetically determined and will to some extent be affected by environmental factors.  Some people are more prone to the effects of heat, water loss and sun than others and so it is important to know your skin and what affects it. Here are some ways in which you can keep your skin calm and balanced.

• Keep your skincare regimen as regular, consistent and as simple as ¬possible. Use a very mild, non-alcohol based face wash and an equally gentle body wash followed by a good moisturising cream for both your face and body.
• Most body parts with the exception of the back and chest are drier than the face as they contain less sebaceous (oil) glands therefore; moisturizing these areas, particularly the legs and arms with body oil, butter rich or petrolatum rich creams is of utmost importance.
• Make sure you hydrate your skin at all times by drinking plenty of water and eating lots of fruits. Avoid caffeine rich drinks (coffee, tea, etc...)As caffeine has a diuretic effect and causes the body to lose water.
• Sensitive skin is also sensitive to the effects of the sun so it is important to use a daily UV screen with a minimum of SPF 15 with both UVA and UVB cover.  People who are prone to burn easily in the sun should limit their exposure time and avoid the afternoon sun between mid-day and 3pm.
• Prepare your skin properly before shaving. Make sure you hydrate your skin and hair for about 2 to 3 minutes and use an ample amount of shaving gel or foam or a razor with built-in gel bars. You should also invest in a technologically advanced razor that has been specifically designed to reduce shaving pressure and subsequent skin irritation and be sure to change your razor regularly to prevent infection risks.
