Qbara unveiled: contemporary Arabesque dining launches in Dubai

- Inspired Arabesque menu designed by Chef Colin Clague; interiors designed by Studio Glitt-Noriyoshi Muramatsu
- Dubai's latest dining destination has now opened its doors at Wafi Fort complex

Dubai, UAE, 14th November 2013: Qbara, a new Middle Eastern lifestyle dining concept which contemporises the traditional cuisines of the Levant, Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa and enhances their appeal for global audiences, has now officially opened its doors to diners in Dubai's Wafi Fort complex.

The new lifestyle dining concept Qbara has been developed by JAS Hospitality, part of the Dubai-based investment company JAS Group. Its menu has been developed by executive chef Colin Clague who has significantly influenced the Dubai dining scene as the opening chef of both Zuma Dubai and The Ivy at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Qbara's unique interiors are designed by Tokyo-based Studio Glitt-Noriyoshi Muramatsu, one of the restaurant world's most revered architects and designers.

Colin Clague, Executive Chef of Qbara said: “Creating a distinctive dining destination born of Dubai and inspired by its influences means designing a menu that goes beyond predictable notions of the region and presents an evolution of Arabesque cuisine. We have taken traditional spices, ingredients and authentic home food and experimented with them to come up with our own imprint, our own unique dishes and our own presentations. The flavours and spicing are authentic to the Middle East, but the methods and recipes are entirely new and wholly ours. The result is a cuisine that will appeal to a broad spectrum of diners, be they Middle Eastern or from anywhere else in the world. It is a step forward for Dubai's home-grown restaurant culture that we are confident diners will love.”

Explaining the concept further, Barbara Marie, Qbara's General Manager, said: “We envisioned a first of its kind dining destination in Dubai that departs from the standard concept of Arabic food that is served the world over. We wanted an ambience that would draw from the traditions of Arab opulence and indulge all the senses of our diners – taste, sight, hearing, smell and touch. The food draws on traditional ingredients and methods but contemporises the preparation and presentation so that it becomes an Arabesque cuisine of its own, for global audiences. Qbara is the realisation of our dream for a restaurant that represents Dubai and its myriad of influences but is firmly and proudly rooted in Middle Eastern traditions and heritage.”

Meaning ‘large and generous' in Arabic, the Arabesque cuisine and culture of Qbara will set a new standard in the Middle Eastern dining experiences.  Spelt backwards, the name is a twist on ‘Arabic' and this playfulness signals a desire to depart from the confines of the traditional and to embrace modern concepts.  Qbara's design, in keeping with its ‘authentic but not traditional' theme projects a sophisticated and fun ambience. Located in Dubai's famous Wafi Fort complex, adjacent to The Raffles Dubai, Qbara is spread over two floors and can host over 300 seated guests within a 13,000 sq. ft. area.

The sound will be led and developed by the talented and popular DJ Hoolz, a fixture on  the professional circuit in Dubai for over a decade now. A full time musician, he is keen to present Qbara's signature soundtrack. The music will be a key element of its culture that will position Qbara among the leading entertainment and dining destinations in Dubai.
