DHA organizes 6th Nursing and Midwifery Research Conference

United Arab Emirates, Dubai, November 4, 2013: The Dubai Health Authority's (DHAs)  Medical Education Department recently organized the 6th Nursing & Midwifery Research Conference at the Rashid Medical Library Auditorium
 
The aim of the event was to attract nurses/midwives, educators, nursing faculty/researchers, managers and nursing leaders interested in promoting  a culture of research to share their enthusiasm, knowledge and passion about research with their colleagues. Over 200 participants attended the conference and delegates from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait took part in the event.

A total of 99 abstracts submitted of which 23 abstracts were selected for presentation in this year's conference.

Professor Tam Truong Donnelly, Associate Dean of Research from the University of Calgary Qatar (UCQ), one of the keynote speakers of the conference discussed during her keynote address the importance of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and various  projects and initiatives which have been developed in Qatar involving undergraduate and post graduate students for research activities.

Dr. Ruby Rouse, Associate Faculty and Executive Director of the Research Institute at the University of Phoenix, Arizona, in her keynote address articulated the importance of preparing future nurses through emphasizing EBP, research & lifelong learning.

Dr. Majid Al-Maqbali Director of Nursing and Midwifery Affairs at the Ministry of Health in Oman shared his Doctoral dissertation with the audience titled “ Perceptions of ICU stakeholders toward nursing staff levels in Omani hospitals: A qualitative case study”.  On day two, Dr. Majid shared the introduction of Nurse Practitioner role in Oman and the successful journey towards its implementation. Dr. Majid received excellent feedback from the audience for his support and achievement for nurses in Oman.

The scientific sessions were  interactive and inspiring, with speakers from Saudi Arabia, Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), DHA facilities and private sector.
 
Dr. Khalil Qayed, Director of the Medical Education Department at the DHA expressed his delight and appraised the sustainability and growth of this event and participating nurses in more research activities. He said: “Through such events, we continue to put forward our best efforts to promote the research culture among nurses and midwives.”

The two days conference was a great success and attracted nurses and midwives from the UAE as well as GCC.
