Created by Sharp Middle East and Africa, the food mosaic consisted of 79,300 packs of food worth AED 107,480 and was donated to the Emirates Red Crescent Society

Dubai, UAE; 29 October 2013 – UAE is now home to yet another GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title thanks to a recent record-breaking effort by Sharp Middle East & Africa (SMEF) to create the Largest packaged food mosaic.

Measuring 24.7 m (81 ft.) in length and 38.6 m (126 ft.) in width, the mosaic consisted of 79,300 packs of food that were put together by 149 employees from Sharp Middle East & Africa. Following the completion of the record-breaking mosaic, Sharp donated all the food packages with the total value of AED 107,480 to the Emirates Red Crescent Society. This activity was a part of the larger CSR initiative called ‘Sharp Cares' that the company actively engages in for the region.

“We're very proud for breaking the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest packaged food mosaic and to make UAE a holder of a new record. Sharp is committed to not only serve its regional customers but to also play an increasingly important role in the community. We always look for opportunities to improve our customers' lives; for their home and business, for the environment and society, and we provide solutions with the user in mind, with simple human benefits,” said Zahid Rahman, General Manager, Business Operations, Sharp Middle East & Africa.

Commenting on the achievement, Mohammed Abdullah Alhaj Al Zaroni, Manager – Dubai branch, Emirates Red Crescent Society, said: “Our heartiest congratulations to Sharp Middle East and Africa on achieving this great feat. Sharp's initiative demonstrates how large corporations can successfully contribute to those in need while bringing immense pride to the nation. We are extremely grateful to Sharp for their donation as contributions of this scale is what makes a real difference to our ongoing efforts to help those in need within the UAE.”

The record-breaking food mosaic depicts an image that, like Sharp's diverse range of consumer and business electronics products, captures a number of different aspects. Sharp's 90” TV screen – the world's largest TV screen and currently commercially available in this market – was used as a background. Overlaid on the TV screen is an artistic tree in the left-hand corner, which signifies the multi-cultural world we live in today as well as the helping hand philosophy that Sharp lives by. Additionally, the positive and negative ions that emanate off the tree represent the natural ions that Sharp's latest Plasmacluster Ion (PCI) technology is able to recreate. Designed to suppress the effects of airborne viruses, this ground-breaking technology highlights Sharp's dedication to develop responsible technology for the betterment of the world we live in.

The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title was previously held in Hong Kong, China where a packaged food mosaic measuring 20.7 m (67 ft.) in length and 30.9 m (101 ft.) in width was created in 2009.
