• To Oversee Implementation of Stringent Health and Safety Standards at Three-Day Inaugural Event Dubai-UAE: 24 October, 2013 – Dubai World Hospitality Championship (DWHC) today announced its association with Dubai Municipality as part of its priority to maintain the highest levels of health and food safety standards throughout the competition. In addition to continuously monitoring the pre-built event show kitchens at the venue, Dubai Municipality officials will conduct random spot checks of the premises throughout the inaugural three-day event. Dubai Municipality will also oversee aspects such as accessibility to the event, availability of amenities like water, and compliance to fire safety and sound regulations. Dubai Municipality will additionally arrange for the distribution of surplus food prepared at the competition to needy families in Dubai. As part of its association with the championship, Dubai Municipality will conduct a series of workshops at women's associations in all the seven emirates. Targeting participants in the home-made food category of the Emirati Competition, the workshops will provide guidelines and instructions on food safety and hygiene. Participating women competitors from these associations will also have the opportunity to interact with representatives from Dubai Municipality and gain clarity on queries or concerns related to health and safety standards at the competition. Sultan Al Taher, Food Inspection Committee of Dubai Municipality, said: “DWHC is a high-profile event involving national and international participants. Dubai has a reputation for following strictest quality standards and guidelines at each of the significant calendar events it hosts. In this case, food is the product in focus, making it imperative to ensure there is no let-up in vigilant quality control with regards to health and safety. Utmost care is being taken to ascertain that quality ingredients and equipment are used, and that participants and visitors do not face any difficulty at any stage prior to or during the three-day event.” Apart from their culinary and aesthetic skills, participants will be evaluated on the level of hygiene maintained during their presentation. As a key requirement, participating individuals and teams are expected to leave the kitchen in pristine condition for the next set of competitors. The Emirati Competition is expected to serve as the biggest attraction of the event and includes a home-made dishes category. The one-of-a-kind contest requires participants to prepare the dishes at their homes and deliver them to the nearest association to which they belong. A visiting jury panel will consider the hygiene standards maintained by the participants in the preparation and presentation of the dishes during the evaluation process. His Excellency Ahmed bin Hareb Al Falahi, President of Dubai World Hospitality Championship, said: “DWHC is poised to make its mark on the world hospitality calendar, and special care is being taken during this inaugural event with the support of Dubai Municipality to ensure that the standards of hygiene and safety are indeed set to become international benchmarks. We are confident that with such focus on quality, we can put together a competition that complements Dubai's ongoing pursuit to stage world-class events.” Organised by the Za'abeel Palace Hospitality under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Dubai World Hospitality Championship will take place from 16-18 November 2013 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Apart from the Heritage and Hospitality Exhibition, the event will feature a series of competitions that will witness over 700 professional and amateur chefs demonstrating their artistic and aesthetic competencies.
