[UAE, Dubai, September 30, 2013] - Dubai Smart Government (DSG) Department has updated its mPay app, which offers instant payment of government bills and fines through smartphones. The app is one of several launches as part of the smart government initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The updated mPay app was announced during a press conference at HH Ruler's Court, in the presence of HE Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director General of DSG. The conference was also attended by Major General Mohammed Saeed Bakhit, Director of General Department of eServices, Dubai Police; Marwan Bin Haidar, CIO and Vice President of the IT Division at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services Sector at RTA; and Abdullah Ibrahim Al Ahmed, Sr Vice President of Business Solutions at Etisalat, who all represented the government entities involved in the mPay app.

“This mPay app is an effective channel to enable our customers to access government services through their smartphones which are always available. We have developed this app with extensive support and cooperation of our government partners to provide a convenient package of utility and bill payments; in line with HH Sheikh Mohammed's call for providing easy access to all government transactions from one place and through mobile phones,” Bin Humaidan said during the conference. He explained that the mPay service had been completely restructured to be compatible with smart phone requirements in terms of speed and smooth provision and use of services.

Bin Humaidan added: “Our customers can download the mPay app from the Apple app or Google Play store and then customize it in a few steps for payment of Dubai Police fines, DEWA & Etisalat bills, RTA's Salik & Nol services. So a customer can choose to pay any or all of Etisalat's services such as mobile phone, broadband, eVision, landline etc; all using one-time setup to ensure ease and convenience to make our customers happier.” The updated app allows easy registration and includes a guide and FAQ section to help new customers.

As many as 13,000 iPhone and Android users have downloaded the application since it was launched in November last year. The app has had nearly 53,000 transactions and collected over AED 15 million in government fees. Meanwhile the mPay website and app together have over 26,000 users, prompting DSG to introduce updates to the application to meet its customers' needs and aspirations. The mPay website also allows additional payment services to be made including social services such as donations to Dubai Cares and Al Jalila, as well as auto-payment and multiple account features.  For example, a customer can recharge the Salik account of his/her car and that of another car he/she owns from his/her mPay account.

To use mPay, customers can directly download the mPay app from the Apple app or Google Play store, register and provide credit card details and start using the app. They can also get information or register from the dedicated website https://mpay.dubai.ae or call AskDubai on 700040000.
