Dubai, 28 September 2013 – Hamburg's Reeperbahn Festival is Germany's largest club festival and a meeting place for Europe's music industry. Took place from Wednesday, 25 September to Saturday, 28 September, this year's festival offered once again exciting national and international music acts, as well as a rich support programme. More than 300 gigs with artists from 35 countries and 100 additional programme events lured music fans, managers and trendsetters to the Reeperbahn at the heart of the St Pauli district. For the first time, the festival was extended from three to four days this year. Amidst the very special atmosphere of this former red-light district, visitors experienced music, culture, arts and the music industry first-hand. Besides established artists such as James Blunt, Birdy, Shout Out Louds, Kate Nash, Efterklang, The Strypes, Left Boy and the Hamburg band Kettcar, the 2013 line-up also included newcomer bands from across the globe.

Reeperbahn Festival: “MUSIC”
For the past eight years, the Reeperbahn Festival has focussed on featuring new and up-and-coming bands that are often presenting themselves for the first time to a German or European audience. This also was the focus of the festival's first day, with new German bands performing in front of the festival's cosmopolitan audience and experts from the music industry. The Reeperbahn Festival has never been afraid of including commercially successful artists in its line-up – provided that their music is authentic. This is certainly the case with James Blunt. This former soldier and goose bump creator, whose most famous hits include “Carry you home” and “You are beautiful”, presented his bold new album “Moon Landing”, which will be released in October. Coming straight from Ireland, mod band “The Strypes” performed their handcrafted tunes live on stage. The lads, who are in fact still teenagers, perceive themselves as “the antithesis of contemporary music” and fully embark on the sound of the early 60s. UK singer-songwriter Birdy, who is inundated in gold and platinum awards, represented the quieter side of the festival. The local heroes from “Kettcar” presented themselves once again to their hometown before taking a longer creative break, while Danish band “Efterklang” are currently capturing audiences across Europe with their ambient indie pop. Numerous other bands from various genres played at this year's festival at more than 70 unique venues of different sizes, among them basement pubs, concert halls, night clubs, bars, theatres, churches, barges, museums and table dance clubs around the St Pauli district. The Reeperbahn Festival “CAMPUS”
The Reeperbahn Festival's CAMPUS component perfectly completes the music programme. The festival's CAMPUS segment is unique in Europe and caters for 2,800 professional festival guests from the music industry. The hottest acts from various labels and countries are being presented at numerous showcase events. Participants include music industry greats such as US “South by Southwest Festival” (SXSW), Sonic Music and Warner Music, and the British music industry (“UK music is great”) has also be showcased its best assets. Also were present Hamburg-based independent labels such as “Audiolith” or “Grand Hotel” that represent local emerging bands, clearly demonstrating that Hamburg has indeed developed into Northern Europe's major music hotspot.

Panels, talks and discussions that devote themselves to the current trends of the music and creative industries are further important elements of the Campus component. International experts have assessed recent developments in-depth. Thus, for instance, Dave Stewart, songwriter and “Eurythmics” mastermind held his keynote speech “Where is the Money?”, while media expert Ken Doctor analysed various media business models in his talk “Playing the Media Blur”. In his talk “Creating Big Ideas Online with Huge Crowds”, Shaun Abrahamson addressed the idea of the “crowd” that all of us are part of in this web-driven age. These were just a few tasty tidbits from this year's festival programme. An overview of the Reeperbahn Festival's many CAMPUS events can be found at

Reeperbahn Festival: “ARTS”
Visitors to the festival have enjoyed something for the eyes in addition to the ears, with more than 50 programme events from the festival's ARTS component. Exhibitions, installations, book readings, illustrations and sound experiments form the basis of the most versatile and ambitious programme to date. Film screenings and exclusive guided tours provide unique insights into Hamburg and the Reeperbahn Festival. For example, the legendary “Flatstock Europe Poster Convention”, the “Hempel's Beatles Tour”, the 'reeper – reeper' exhibition or “The (Hi) stories of St Pauli Clubs” were part of the show.
