Tim Wellens Seals Overall Renewi Tour Victory
• Historic 3rd time winning for Belgian, Grossschartner 2nd in Deutschland Tour •

News | Team – 28th August 2022

Tim Wellens and UAE Team Emirates celebrated a big victory as the Belgian rider took home an impressive overall title win at the Renewi Tour in Bilzen today.

Matteo Trentin was 2nd on the final stage in a very close reduced sprint behind Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Victorious) after putting in some good teamwork in the final kilometres to control the race.

Wellens: “This week we came here with the ambition to win the race. It worked out perfectly in the end. I knew that both the TT stage and the following day in Geraardsbergen would be critical so I really focused on those. We succeeded in the end – my teammates helped me perfectly. It's a world tour race so it's very important for me and for the team also. I'm looking forward to heading into my final goals of the season in good form.”

The powerful team display was underscored as UAE Team Emirates took home the team prize.

There was success also at the Deutschland Tour as Felix Grossschartner took 2nd place in the General Classification behind Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal-Quickstep).

The German race concluded in Bremen today with the Emirati team also taking home the team classification there.
