Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority Invites UAE-based Artists to Contribute to New Exhibition in Qattara Arts Centre

Abu Dhabi, UAE- 24 January 2017:  Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) is offering all UAE-based mixed media artists the opportunity to participate in a new exhibition, in March at the Al Qattara Arts Centre in Al Ain.

The exhibition, entitled Collage, will showcase a selection of mixed media works, where essentially the artwork can be made of any combination of mediums allowing all UAE-based mixed-media artists the chance to be part of the exhibit and display their work to an audience.

The initiative is part of a wider programme of cultural events for Al Ain, which has been announced by TCA Abu Dhabi. These events aim to provide a culturally enriched experience for visitors and residents and will run throughout 2017.

Starting from Thursday 26th January and running on weekends throughout the year, community engagement programmes, concerts and festivals, as well as exhibitions such as Collage, will engage with residents and visitors to the ‘Oasis City'.

“Collage will attract UAE talent from across the country; Emiratis and residents alike,” said Sumayya Al Suwaidi, Community Events Manager at TCA Abu Dhabi, who is curating  the exhibition. “We will celebrate the creative minds who express their thoughts and emotions into visual artistic works that connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

“We want to hear from all mixed media artists in the UAE who might be interested in participating in this group exhibition and celebrate with each other their talent, creativity and artistic inspiration,” she added.

The term mixed media is used for an artwork in which more than one medium has been used in the creation process. The use of mixed media was coined in the early 20th Century with the cubist collages and constructions of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, and has become widespread as artists developed increasingly open attitudes to the media of art.

The exhibition will also be a unique opportunity for the community and different generations of artists to meet, interact and learn about the country's achievements in the arts scene.

The last day for receiving the participation application form is 29th February 2017. Anyone interested in getting involved in the show, which will open on 15th March and continue until 18th May, should contact: opencall@tcaabudhabi.ae
