Strong Media Presence Reflects Reputation of Leading International Defence Events
Abu Dhabi-UAE: 23 January, 2017: Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) today announced that more than 800 media representatives from around the world will cover the upcoming editions of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2017) and Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX 2017).
Organised in collaboration with the UAE Armed Forces under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, IDEX and NAVDEX 2017 will run at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 19 to 23 February 2017. The strong media presence reinforces the status of both exhibitions as leading international defence events.
Saeed bin Khadim Al Mansouri, Director of IDEX and NAVDEX 2017, said: “As part of our efforts to upgrade our facilities in line with the continued growth of the specialised exhibitions and conferences sector in Abu Dhabi, we have set up a permanent media centre at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre to host press briefings for the events held here. Given the crucial role the media plays in promoting Abu Dhabi's business tourism sector, it is our priority to simplify their task through providing seamless access to state-of-the-art facilities.”
He added: “With the capacity to accommodate hundreds of journalists at the same time, our media centre is fitted out with high-speed internet as well as the latest computer and office equipment. In addition to dedicated areas for conducting interviews, we have designated a hall for live broadcasts of press conferences, equipped with cutting-edge audio and video facilities. Exhibitors can use the hall free of charge to announce important agreements and business deals signed during IDEX and NAVDEX 2017.”
Furthermore, ADNEC has appointed an IDEX Media Committee to deal with representatives of the media and help them reach out to the official spokespersons of the exhibitors, visiting delegations and VIPs. The Committee, in collaboration with the National Media Council (NMC), will also coordinate with local media regarding all matters related to registration for IDEX and NAVDEX.
For international media organisations, ADNEC has launched an online registration platform, where they can obtain the necessary permits to cover the associated events.
Al Mansouri noted that the upcoming editions of IDEX and NAVDEX are likely to witness the announcement of several multi-million dollar defence deals. While the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces will host daily press briefings to announce the deals signed by its various units, many national and international companies will hold separate press conferences to publicise their own deals concluded during the event.
The last edition of the biennial exhibition, IDEX 2015, attracted more than 1,200 local and international defence manufacturers and contractors as well as over 101,000 visitors from across the world. The event facilitated business deals worth AED18.3 billion.
