The Shah of Indian theatre returns to Dubai – and he's not alone

Naseeruddin Shah's Motley Productions set to stage “Riding Madly off in all Directions”, starring besides the legendary actor, his wife Ratna Pathak Shah, and children Heeba, Vivaan and Imaad

Dubai, UAE, January 8, 2017:  Theatre aficionados can now mark the date on their calendar for the latest Motley Production, “Riding Madly off in all Directions,” featuring none other than the legendary Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah along with their children, Heeba, Vivaan and Imaad. This entertaining affair, which will make its international outing on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Centrepoint Theatre, DUCTAC, brings together for the first time the entire Shah family on stage, promising some power-packed performances. Penned by British-born Canadian political scientist and humourist, Stephen Leacock, the set of five short stories are a satirical and amusing take on the everyday, mundane happenings, cleverly moulded into separate plots, with a fair sprinkling of at times tongue-in-cheek humour and at times dark, designed to make one smile, not laugh.

Synopsis:

Directed by the great Shah himself, the five stand-alone plots of “Riding Madly off in all Directions” are aptly summarised by the title. The stories may not be seemingly connected to each other, but Leacock's satirical thread runs through every one of them as they highlight the human life experiences, with a touch of dark humour. While Vivaan grasps the audience's attention in his desperate attempt to borrow a matchbox to light a cigar, Heeba embodies an early 20th-century working-class American woman trying to open a bank account. Imaad, on the other hand, enthrals all with his class act as card-conjuror's victim, who he outwits with ease.

And then we have Naseeruddin Shah in a 3000 AD avatar, prophesying the tragic impact of science on human race, while Ratna Pathhak Shah blows emotions into Mathematics, forever changing the way we look at the A, B and C of Math equations.

Dimple Mitra of ADSS, the company bringing the play to Dubai, said: “Motley Productions is known to venture off the beaten track, and has never left its audience disappointed. This play's appeal lies not just in the amazing performances, but also the fact that we will see the entire Shah clan sharing the stage. As always, this play by Naseeruddin Shah will be food for thought, and will certainly provide its audience with something to ponder over as they leave the theatre”.
