ABU DHABI, UAE 02 January 2017: A staple that marks the beginning of the season for the best in tennis, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Raphael Nadal proudly raised the gold trophy, designed by, Lasvit, the official trophy supplier of the event for the 7th year running.
Bringing the best in tennis to Abu Dhabi, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, saw legendary Rafael Nadal and David Goffin battling it out for the gold at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City in what was an unforgettable final. Second and third place trophies were awarded to David Goffin and Andy Murray, respectively.
The newly designed trophy, reflecting the rays of the sun is designed by Lasvit's in house designer Jana Růžičková, who has designed the 46-piece collection at the Address Boulevard. Inspired by the sun, the trophy aptly named Shine of Victory reflects the glow of victory, a symbol of success. Each beam was hand cut at a different angle from a block of high-quality optical glass. Individual glass rays were then collected to create the final shape, every step of the process highly demanding the skills of Lasvit´s master craftsmen.
Each year, the three-day tournament boasts a thrilling line up of 6 of the best tennis players in the world accompanied by exciting balance of off court enjoyment, which appeals to entertainment fans of all ages. It has also been confirmed that dates for 2017 will be 28 – 30 December which will mark the 10th edition of the event.
Speaking at this year's final Leon Jakimič, founder and president of Lasvit and an avid tennis player said, “Through the Mubadala World Tennis Championship we are able to connect the worlds of design and sport and are very proud to see our bespoke trophy raised by some of the world's best tennis players here in Abu Dhabi year after year.”
Combining traditional Bohemian glass-making with innovative design and technology, Lasvit's coveted works are found in the world's most exclusive hotels, from Paris to New York and from Hong Kong to Seoul. Lasvit is firmly established in the UAE and its creations grace the interiors of exclusive hotels and public spaces such as the Dubai Opera, Palazzo Versace, Rosewood and St Regis hotels as well as several discerning private residences.
