59% of Women Don't Believe They'll Start to Show the Signs of Ageing Until They Are 35 – But Olay Reveals That These Signs can Start to Appear at Age 20!

Olay launches a dedicated skincare survey and decodes skin ageing to help women identify the first signs of skin ageing 

Dubai, UAE, November 1, 2016:   The World's Number One Female Facial Skincare Brand , Olay, the skin care brand that changed the face of ageing over 15 years ago when Total Effects was first launched, is introducing a dedicated skincare survey to help women identify the first signs of ageing. The brand surveyed women in the Arabian Peninsula from ages 18-35 and discovered that a staggering 59% do not believe they will start to show signs of ageing until they are 35.  

Dr. Frauke Neuser, Olay Principal Scientist explains “At Olay we talk to many women across the world on a daily basis and through conversations we noticed that in Arabian Peninsula many women don't make the link between the skin changes they see on their faces in their late 20s and 30s and skin ageing. They become more and more dissatisfied with their skin and wish they had the skin they had a few years ago and often envy the perfect skin of other women. We conducted a survey and can see that they are just not making the connection between the skin issues they are seeing and skin ageing.  This means that they are not open to the anti-ageing skincare solutions that are available to them. Indeed, 59% told us that they don't believe they will start to show the signs of ageing until they are 35. We believe that it is due to not understanding exactly what they are seeing reflected back at them in the mirror – borne out by the fact that 60% of women did not know that dark skin spots are skin ageing indicators.”

Multiple Signs of Ageing – Including Skin Changes Women Don't Recognise As Skin Ageing
The arrival of Olay Total Effects in the skincare market completely changed how women recognise and treat the multiple signs of ageing.  Dr. Neuser explains, “Prior to Total Effects, skin ageing was talked about strictly in terms of wrinkles. Olay research showed that ageing manifests itself in a total of 7 different ways – which include changes like dark spots appearing, dullness, enlarged pores and fine lines. Our research has also revealed that there are some ‘not-yet-visible' signs of ageing that start to occur within the skin as early as from 20 onwards. A woman might not be aware of these signs yet – simply because she doesn't recognise what they are when she looks in the mirror.”

So whilst Olay scientists are aware of the multiple signs of ageing, it would appear that there are some young women who are not understanding what they see reflected back at them. Nor are they being mindful of the protection their skin needs to prevent latent skin ageing becoming visible on the surface of her skin.

Still, this doesn't mean that skin concerns don't plague women in the Arab world. Olay's study found that, when it comes to skin ageing, almost a third of respondents (27%) are worried about issues like fine lines and wrinkles. A total of 21% also admitted that they are concerned about other skin problems such as a sagging jawline and loss of firmness.

Interestingly, when asked what prevented them from using an anti-ageing cream, a surprising 22% of Arab women answered that they simply ‘lacked the time'.
