Zulekha Hospital Sharjah opens new US$4 Million Wing, part of major expansion in healthcare services

31 new in-patient rooms brings total to 150

Sharjah, UAE, September 10, 2016:   The new wing of Zulekha Hospital Sharjah was officially inaugurated today by Prof Dr Robert S Warren, Professor Department of Surgery, Chief of Surgical Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco.

Greeted and accompanied by Dr Zulekha Daud, Founder and Chairperson of Zulekha Healthcare Group, Prof Dr Warren toured the new facilities alongside dignitaries including Mr Taher Shams, Managing Director and Ms Zanubia Shams, Co-Chairperson of Zulekha Hospital as well as Dr Adil Daud, Professor from UCSF.

The new US$4 million wing, which was completed in three months, sees the creation of an additional 31 in-patient rooms and will support the wide range of services now provided throughout the hospital.  The expansion brings the total number of beds available at Zulekha Hospital Sharjah to 150, spread across 240,000 sq ft.

“When Zulekha Hospital Sharjah opened its doors for the first time in 1992, the building featured a 30 bed set-up for patients with basic facilities in gynecology, obstetrics, surgery, medicine and paediatrics,” said Mr Taher Shams.

“Today, we celebrate another milestone in our history books for this multi-disciplinary hospital and diagnostics centre, and we are very much looking forward to opening the doors to our local community.”

Recognised as a forerunner in the UAE's healthcare industry, Zulekha Hospital has garnered extensive recognition for its commitment towards quality care and sustainable business practices, receiving the prestigious Dubai Quality Award twice in four years, underlining its commitment to providing high quality healthcare to patients and society at large.

Its community awareness efforts, including regular blood donation drives, the annual Pink It Now breast cancer initiative, the Smear Don't Fear cervical cancer campaign and most recently, the Watch Your Back colorectal cancer cause play an integral role in the Group's efforts to educate the wider public on the importance of regular checks and screening opportunities.

Each initiative provides the general public with access to free consultations and checks with Zulekha's respected team of oncologists and healthcare professionals.

Earlier this year, Zulekha Hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding with charitable organisation Beit Al Khair Society to provide healthcare services to patients in need.  The agreement provides treatment to patients whose health insurance does not cover the expenses of essential treatment or costly surgeries they require.
