Dubai, UAE, July 25, 2016:  The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) honoured today Dr Mary John, who retired after working at the DHA for 28 years.

She began her career as a gynecologist in Dubai Hospital in 1987 and in 1992, she moved to Latifa Hospital as consultant gynecologist. 

From 1996 until 2006, she served as head of gynecology department at Latifa Hospital. 

In 2013, she moved to the Dubai Gynecology and Fertility Centre (DGFC) as the director of the centre and headed the centre until retirement.

The DGFC is the first government fertility center in the UAE and one of the leading establishments of its kind in the region.

The Dubai Health Authority held a ceremony in her honour at the DHA headquarters.

His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, said: “The DHA would like to thank Dr John for decades of dedicated service and for her constant perseverance to develop gynecology services at the DHA in line with international standards.”

Under Dr John's leadership the DGFC become the first centre in the Middle-East to obtain ACI international accreditation for the embryology laboratory. 

The DGFC is one of the pioneers in infertility treatment in the region and from its start more than 3000 babies have been born through assisted reproductive technology (ART) provided at the center. 

The felicitation ceremony was attended by her colleagues including senior managers such as Dr Hana Tahwara, current Director of Dubai Gynecology and Fertility Centre, Dr Ahmad Bin Kalban, CEO of Hospital Services Centre, Dr Muna Tahlak, CEO of Latifa Hospital among others.
