A Shopper’s Paradise

Dubai is the shopping capital of the world and is equivalent to a national past time for most of its residents and tourists.

It is a haven for shopaholics who could easily spend their entire stay and blow up huge amounts of money in just one among the many gigantic and space-age malls. The experience is intoxicating as well as exotic.

From the city’s ever increasing number of hi-tech and glitzy malls (the latest being more spectacular than the last), to the ancient creek side souqs, there is a tremendous variety of shopping that you can do in this part of the world.

Shopping is central to all new development in the city and the malls will offer you every opportunity to indulge in retail therapy –whether inside the brand new Dubai Festival City or in the upcoming Atlantis Hotel in the Palm. The world’s first snow dome at the Mall of the Emirates or the Ibn Batuta Mall named after the legendary traveler Ibn Batuta are also universal draws.

More often than not, shopping entails much more than just a retail therapeutic experience. It’s a way of lifestyle, a recreation and a lifeline that most find hard to resist. Here you can snowboard, take a sauna slump in front of an IMAZ screen or even take a session at an aroma therapy session. There seems to be no end to the amount of malls that are mushrooming throughout the city. With giant malls serving as complete entertainment centers, it is easy to wile away an entire day hopping from shop to shop until closing time which is not before 10 p.m.

As an open port with low import duties, the retail prices in the city are relatively competitive and being tax-free, many top-branded products are less expensive in Dubai than in their country of origin.

Shoppers are spoilt for choice as the myriad of souqs, shopping malls and boutiques across the city offer Parisian haute coutre, hi-tech electronics from Japan and cultural treasures from the region.
