- For every LEGO lantern built, LEGOLAND Dubai is set to donate a ‘Beacon-In-A-Box’ DIY-light kit to children in impoverished areas of the world
Dubai, 26 June 2018 – LEGOLAND® Dubai celebrated the spirit of the season this Ramadan, as the theme park brought families together to build for a good cause. A total of 1,000 traditional Ramadan lanterns were built out of LEGO® bricks by guests during the Holy Month, and through a partnership with Beacon of Hope UAE, a non-profit initiative founded by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the park is set to bring light to disadvantaged children from around the world.
All 1,000 lanterns were built and have been placed across MINILAND in a beautiful display of light; and in turn, LEGOLAND Dubai is sharing this light by donating 1,000 solar light kits to the Beacon of Hope UAE. Called ‘Beacon-In-A-Box’, the simple-to-assemble kits help young children in impoverished areas around the world to put together their own light, as well as learn about the science behind solar energy.
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, said: “It is a blessing to see children helping other children, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan, for a cause that is so dear to my heart. I would personally like to thank LEGOLAND Dubai for supporting the Beacon of Hope UAE with 1,000 solar lanterns, to together spread hope, light and education to young people in energy-poor areas of the world.”
Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of LEGOLAND Dubai, said: “It has been a truly heartwarming experience to partner with such a special initiative such as the Beacon of Hope UAE this Ramadan, to together enlighten and enrich the lives of kids worldwide. We always strive to bring joy to the families that visit
LEGOLAND Dubai, and we are very pleased that through this initiative, our guests have helped make a direct impact to the lives of children in need.”
Beacon of Hope UAE is a non-profit initiative founded by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, which aims to make a positive impact on impoverished children globally through light and literacy. The partnership between the initiative and LEGOLAND Dubai is also in honour of the Year of Zayed, sharing core values of wisdom and human development by assisting and imparting knowledge to those in need to help build a brighter future.
