Mercury jumps by 6°C on Wednesday

THE hot and humid summer refuses to provide solace to the residents as was evident on Wednesday with the mercury taking a 6°C vault, even as the transitional weather entered the month of September.
Wednesday recorded a maximum of 46°C temperature in Sharjah, six degrees higher than the Tuesday maximum of 40°C, meteorology sources said.
They attributed the surge in temperature to a sudden change in wind direction and the high humidity, as a result of rains in Pakistan.
Fasting believers had more than 14 hours between Imsak and Iftar under 46°C heat and high humidity.
There was high humidity in the air that even showed as jet trails in the skies during these days, the source added. A lowering of that humidity caused a rise in temperature in this part, they said.
There were some clouds over the UAE sky but it didn’t make any difference, one source said.
The transition of weather will be remarkably clear by Sept.15 when average maximum temperature will be 36-38°C. The condition will also lead to thick early morning fog over coastal UAE. The fog is the result of mixing of hot and cool air that is blowing from the seaside.
The change in temperature may also affect a pressure change leading to strong wind and high seas in the coming days, the source added.
