Carpets and Arts Oasis to open its doors to visitors on Jan 15
DSF 2009 Signature Event to feature exquisite and rare carpets
January 14, 2009 - Carpets and Arts Oasis, one of the most popular attractions in Dubai Shopping Festival 2009, will open its doors tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 15). The event is organized by Dubai Customs as part of its participation in this year's DSF. The annual event, which is being held for the 14th consecutive year, will see the participation of a wide range of companies and merchants from the most renowned carpet manufacturers and weavers based in Iran, Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan.
Abdul Rahman Essa, Head of the Carpets and Arts Oasis Committee, stressed that the Oasis is geared up for welcoming visitors at 10am tomorrow morning, which coincides with the launch of DSF activities. He also confirmed that the supervising committee had finalized all necessary arrangements, with the introduction of new improvements that create the ideal carpet and arts trading exhibition for visitors and exhibitors alike.
“The Carpets and Arts Oasis is now a valuable part of the hand-woven carpet industry in the Middle East and the UAE in particular. The event has become an essential annual attraction that continues for more than three consecutive weeks and more in certain occasions and features over 150,000 masterpieces of exquisite hand woven carpets of different shapes, colors, sizes and designs, some of which bear the signature of the most renowned artisans in the trade,” he said.
“The event, which is being held for the fourteenth year in a row at the West Hall of Dubai International Airport Exhibition Center and covers a massive 12,000 square metres, has evolved over the years thanks to the efforts put in by Dubai Customs in support of all trade and economic sectors in Dubai. Dubai Customs has attached great importance to this event because it is among the notable events in Dubai Shopping Festival itinerary, in addition to having successfully attracted visitors from the Middle East, especially from the Gulf Cooperation Council states,” he added.
The Oasis will welcome visitors every day from 10am to 10pm, except on Fridays where visitors are welcome from 4pm to 11pm. The event will also feature live presentations on carpet weaving so that visitors will have the chance to familiarize themselves with the most common techniques in carpet weaving and what colours and fabrics to use to create unique personalized carpets.
71 exhibitors will participate in the Carpets & Arts Oasis 2009, giving visitors the chance to see and select the kind of carpets and rugs that represent a true reflection of the civilizations, cultures and arts of the countries they are made in.
