Weddings : It’s All Happening at the DSF

Sometimes a wedding lingers on in public memory and not necessarily because it’s a celebrity marriage. In Dubai, you can hope to make your marriage a much celebrated occasion by choosing the Al Seef Road, the heart of DSF 2008 celebrations –as the venue of the marriage.

This year Al Seef Street witnessed a rather unique event in the form of a real wedding (on Feb 15) as crowds gathered to celebrate the occasion. The newly married couple danced to traditional music and joined in the ritual feast later on.


Pedigree and Whiskas Dubai Pet Show begins Feb 16

The 20th Pedigree and Whiskas Dubai Pet Show will get underway on Feb 16 as owners from all over the UAE bring their pets for a unique show at the Nad Al Sheba racing club as part of DSF 2008 attractions. The event will begin at 8am.

The fun-filled day combines excitement and entertainment such as dog competitions, police dog shows, games and bouncy castles, magicians and a crafts village for youngsters and adults alike. The event also includes a spectacular police dog show organized by Dubai Police.


Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department distributes books during DSF 2008

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department has set up a stall at Wafi City and other shopping malls in Dubai to offer Islamic books and pamphlets for families and children. The department has taken the initiative to offer tips to new Muslims under the New Muslims section to give them guidelines about how to lead an Islamic way of life.

The books are being offered free of cost and are available in a number of languages including Arabic, Tagalog, Malay, Hindi and several other European and Asian languages. The guidelines are presented in flowing dialect for easy understanding by people from all backgrounds.

UAE national wins a kilo of gold as wedding gift

Marwan Eisa, a UAE national won a kilo of gold when his relative bought gold worth AED 30,000 meant for a wedding. Overjoyed and amazed by the winning, Marwan, all of eleven years, said that although the ticket was written down in his name it was actually his uncle who got the ticket.

“My name was merely written down on the ticket, it was my uncle who bought the gold for a wedding. I can't believe we won one kilo of gold. I just want to see how much one kilo of gold looks like,” said the youngster.

Saudi scent-filled pavilion charms Global Village visitors

Decorated in a unique mix of Islamic and modern Arab architectural styles, the Saudi pavilion at the Global Village, a member of Tatweer, is focussing, during this special edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival 2008, on promoting the cultural aspects of the Saudi heritage as its main theme, giving the visitors the impression that they have been ushered rather into Saudi territories than into a DSF pavilion.

Dubai, 26 January 2008 – Dubai shopping festival 2008 will be the host of the 14th edition of the famous Terry Fox Run. The event, happening for the 3rd consecutive time during the Shopping extravaganza, will be held on Feb 15 at Al Mamzar Park.

7000 Fans Attend Tamer Hosni’s debut concert

Dubai: Popular Egyptian singer Tamer Hosni enthralled his fans at the Dubai Media City on January 28 with more than 7000 people rooting for more at the nippy cold open air auditorium. The concert is part of a series of mega concerts that have been planned as part of the DSF calendar for 2008.

Tamer Hosni who made his GCC debut with this concert was overwhelmed by the huge popular response and extended his concert by more than 90 minutes. The famous Egyptian singer

Fans of the extremely popular artist had the opportunity to see him live in action for the first time in this part of the region. Hosni sang some of his best hits including the record breaking numbers from his latest album “Ya Bent El Eah.” His repertoire also included some of his old classics that catapulted him to fame.

Dubai Food Festival 2008 to witness world record attempt for biggest Manakish

The Dubai Food Festival 2008 created history for cooking up the ‘Largest Manakish’ m at Uptown Mirdiff that is hosting this year’s Dubai Food Festival till February 2.

Manakish is a popular food consisting of baked dough topped with cheese or thyme or ground meat, and an integral part of Middle Eastern cuisine. Chefs from the Lebanese restaurant Sidra will attempt to create a record using in the process about ten kilos of thyme topping and more than 12 litres of oil.

Tshering Idnani, DSF Senior Events Coordinator said, “DSF is celebrating ten years of continuous record breaking and there couldn’t be a better way to start the year than making an attempt during Dubai Food Festival 2008. The biggest Manakish is just one of the exciting surprises lined up for visitors to the Dubai Food Festival 2008.”

6,000 Yoga Enthusiasts Join Swami Ramdev Camp

The 2008 edition of DSF took more than 6,000 of enthusiasts through a three-day holistic sojourn as Swami Ramdev conducted the Eurostar yoga camp. The yoga camp was conducted at the Airport Expo Dubai, between 6.00 am and 8.30 am, from 25 to 27 January, 2008. The yoga exponent has recently conducted highly successful workshops in US, UK, Far East, Africa and Canada.

Swami Ramdev demonstrated breathing exercises which will provide relief to people suffering from diabetes, asthma, bronchitis, leucoderma, depression, Parkinson's Disease, insomnia, migraine, hypertension, high cholesterol, hyperthyroidism, arthritis, cervical spondylitis, hepatitis, chronic renal failure, cancer, cirrhosis of liver, gastric troubles, constipation and acidity.
