Doha, Qatar – May 6, 2015: Fifteen top-ranked business schools and 1500 students kicked off three days of high energy, action-packed sports and networking events as HEC Paris, the leading business school that has been consistently ranked #1 in Europe by the Financial Times since 2006, opened the annual MBA Tournament (MBAT) in France.
Hosted and organized by HEC Paris for the 25th consecutive year, the MBAT is a student-organized event led by a 25-member team comprising current HEC Paris MBA students. As part of the program’s emphasis on leadership and transformation, as well as the building of personal engagement and entrepreneurial mindset, organizing and managing the event enables students to practice their leadership skills outside of the classroom.
Under the core values of ‘Teamwork, Diversity & Excellence’, this year’s MBAT will run up to 9 May 2015 at the HEC Paris campus in France. In honor of its 25th edition, this year’s event will feature 25 sporting events such as badminton, cricket, football, rowing, golf and tennis, as well as three major networking and socialization events. Other fun and leisure activities have also been lined up throughout the duration of the tournament such as a mechanical bull, sumo wrestling, gladiator games, trampolines, bumping balls and more.
Characterized by heated competition, friendly rivalries, passionate celebrations and cultural exchanges, the HEC Paris campus is transformed into an Olympic-like atmosphere that incorporates into a vast event for networking, competing and partying. Much more than a sporting tournament, the event also provides participating MBA students with an opportunity to connect with peers and competitors, as well as sponsors and alumni.
“HEC Paris takes pride in presenting a well-established platform for some of the brightest MBA students in the world to engage in fierce but friendly sports competition as well as meaningful networking opportunities that teach the value of teamwork and leadership,” said Bernard Garrette, Associate Dean of HEC Paris MBA. “This event gives students the chance to put what they have learned in the classroom to the test on the field by creating and leading strong teams. We look forward to three days of non-stop action and thrilling competition!”
“Over the past 24 years of the tournament, HEC Paris has successfully taken the lead through the leadership, teamwork and managerial skills of some of our HEC Paris MBA students,” he added. “As has been our track record, I am therefore confident that this 25th edition of the event will likewise be a resounding success.”
Among the schools competing at the 2015 edition include Cambridge Judge Business School, Cranfield School of Management, ESADE, IE Business School, IESE, INSEAD, Lancaster University, London Business School, Oxford Said, Rotterdam School of Management, TiasNimbas, Cass School of Management, Durham Business School, HEC Paris, and new entrant St. Gallen Business School.
