• French duo succeeds in a reord breaking jump from the top of Burj Khalifa
Two brave men made it to the Guinness Book of World Records when they leapt from the tip of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. French jumpers Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet took off from a specially made 3-by-1 meter platform and jumped 2,717 feet leaving a trail of red smoke behind them.
The jump, organised by SkyDive Dubai, makes Fugen and Reffet the record holder for highest BASE jump from a building. Although they are not the first to BASE jump from the top of the tower, the platform added an extra 500 feet, enabling them to break the world record.
To prepare for this for the record-setting BASE jump, the veteran base jumpers underwent rigorous training. They spent a week practicing in Switzerland by leaping off Lauterbeunnen Mountain, which is almost the same height as Burj Khalifa.
• A new research revealed that obesity awareness is increasing in the UAE. Awareness about obesity and other lifestyle-related conditions has jumped by 22% from last year.
Additionally, 38% of the respondents said they are aware about the dangers of sedentary lifestyles on their well-being. The annual survey was conducted by Dubai based Lifestyle Yoga with more than 1,500 residents.
The research also revealed that at least one third of the population are turning to fitness activities and group exercise classes such as yoga, pilates and Zumba to de-stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Sumit Manav, Founder of Dubai Lifestyle Yoga said about this survey,” Dubai has a very stressful lifestyle, people are under a lot of pressure because of their office work. So what basically happens is, when you go through so much stress, your body goes through a lot of issues, this is also known as psychosomatic disease which comes from your mind towards your body.
So when you go for a yoga class, normally what happens is it ends up in balanced hormones; yoga is all about balancing hormones in your body because it deals with the glands and the endocrine system.
