  • More than 7,400 people downloaded the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt application on their smartphones
  • 106 participants rewarded with exciting prizes

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, February 28, 2018:  Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, announced today the winners of the ‘“Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt', a three3-week initiative which ran between 8th and 29th January in partnership with Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Office at Dubai Culture. The hunt was a success across the UAE community, with over 7,400 individuals downloaded the app, 6,100 joined the hunt and more than 325 completing at least 10 challenges, bringing the total number of challenges solved to 5,900.

Speaking about the initiative's success, Amal Al Redha, Director of Fundraising at Dubai Cares said: “The Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt has been a huge success. The response and engagement we have received from the UAE community was beyond our expectations. We would like to thank everyone who participated and made this initiative successful. Our ambition now is to expand on this unique initiative and further engage all segments of the UAE society. With the continuous support of our community members and partners, we look forward to building on this successful initiative and making it bigger and better in the future.”

Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture, added: “Dubai Culture was pleased to support this unique and highly successful initiative, which reflected our mandates to nurture local talent and spread the joy of art in alignment with the Dubai Plan 2021 vision to make Dubai a city of happy, creative and empowered people. By proactively engaging the public and reaching out to all segments of our society, the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hung also served as a memorable first initiative for the UAE's Year of Zayed 2018, highlighting and continuing the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's legacy of enhancing community spirit, social welfare and unity.”

Ahmad Safwan was announced the top winner and was awarded with an opportunity to volunteer abroad with Dubai Cares (Volunteer Globally), one annual day pass for Dubai Parks & Resorts and a 2 night-stay for two at the Versace Hotel, while Rama Al Akram came in second place and was awarded with an opportunity for 5 volunteers to participate in an edition of Volunteer Emirates 2018, one annual day pass for Dubai Parks & Resorts and a Dubai Mall voucher worth AED 3,000. Femith Moideen came in third place and was awarded with an opportunity for 5 volunteers to participate in an edition of Volunteer Emirates 2018, one annual day pass for Dubai Parks & Resorts and a Dubai Mall voucher worth AED 2,000. The top three winners were also awarded a Sensasia spa voucher.

Moreover, the first 100 participants to solve 10 challenges received a voucher from Paris Gallery worth AED 600. Additionally, Dubai Cares randomly selected 3 winners among those who complete 15 challenges whereby the first participant received a Formula DXB Gift pack and the 2nd and third participants received an Adult Karting Gift pack courtesy of Dubai Autodrome.

Ahmed Safwan, the first winner of the Scavenger Hunt said: “I first heard about the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt was on a news article. Then I decided to embark on a challenging and day-long journey all around Dubai. I am so excited to be the first winner of the Hunt and look forward to participating in similar initiatives in the future.”

The hunt invited residents to locate 15 art pieces hidden inside light bulb structures and placed across key locations in Dubai. When a structure was discovered with the help of 3 clues, participants scanned a QR code to confirm that they have found it, which was recorded on the Dubai Cares app.

The 15 art pieces were inspired by the following themes: Ambition, Commitment, Courage, Creativity, Giving, Gratitude, Happiness, Innovation, Kindness, Leadership, Opportunity, Tolerance, Peace, Resilience and Trust. The artists who generously devoted their energy and time to this initiative were: Alaa Demachkie, Ananthu Dileep, Ashwaq Abdulla, Dennis Villafuerte, Diaa Allam, Eman Al-Raesi, Halim Khoriaty, Jean Karl Saliba, Khawla Darwish, Lama Khatib Daniel, Maisoon Al Saleh, Miaser Al-Habori and S.M Ziyad.

The ‘light bulbs' were also acquired by the following donors: Al Tayer Group, Dubai Airports, Dubai Investments, Dubai Mall, Paris Gallery and Scientechnic. Each sponsored ‘light bulb' is currently being handed over to its donor.

The 15 lightbulb structures were located in Al Fahidi, Box Park, City Walk 1, City Walk 2, Dubai Airport – Terminal 3, Dubai Design District, Dubai Glow Garden, Dubai Mall, Emirates Towers, Global Village, Harvey Nichols (Mall of the Emirates), Kite Beach, La Mer, Last Exit and The Beach (JBR).
