Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 24 February 2018: Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) has announced the winners of the ‘Innovation In Cyber Security Award'. The University of Dubai, and the University of Sharjah in collaboration with the American University of Sharjah have been declared as the competition winners.
The University of Dubai won the award for their research proposal titled ‘Secure and robust wireless communication system for low-latency applications'. While the University of Sharjah and the American University Sharjah alliance was awarded for their proposal on ‘Improved Block chain infrastructure with IoT for critical/smart government applications'.
The UAE Minister of State for Advanced Science, Her Excellency Sarah Bint Yousif Al Amiri, graced the award ceremony as a mark of support to the ‘Innovation Research in Cyber Security' competition organized by Dubai Electronic Security Center. The award winners were honoured by Her Excellency Al Amiri at the event and were granted 350,000 AED each to advance their research studies.
Delivering the opening speech of the award ceremony, Her Excellency Sarah Bint Yousif Al Amiri, the UAE Minister of State for Advanced Science said, “As the UAE starts to move towards an innovative knowledge-based economy, it is critical that we focus on establishing the necessary infrastructure to insure the protection of intellectual property and know-how in the UAE.”
DESC Director General, Yousuf Al Shaibaini, said, “We are tremendously pleased with the results, and appreciate the immense effort and diligence invested by the researchers into the competition. The research ideas and proposals we have seen in this competition are an embodiment of excellence and hard work. We congratulate the winning teams and are confident that their research ideas on cyber security will have a huge impact not only in the UAE but at a global scale.”
Speaking at the momentous occasion, Dr. Bushra Al Blooshi, Director of Research and Innovation at Dubai Electronic Security Center said, “It is of great importance for us to establish an ongoing partnership with regional and global universities and contribute to our society through such initiatives. We value the involvement of academic institutions in conducting research work that address the demands and challenges of rapidly evolving technology,” she added.
