Agreement part of the Ministry's ambitious plans for enhanced healthcare provision across the Emirates

Partnership will draw on Mubadala Healthcare's expertise across a range of clinical areas through its network of world class healthcare services

Jan 30th, 2018 - ABU DHABI (UAE) –   The UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention and Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), the Abu Dhabi-based investment and development company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore cooperation across eight key healthcare pillars.

The agreement will see the organizations collaborate on a range of healthcare and therapeutic areas in which Mubadala Healthcare and its network of world class healthcare companies has deep expertise. The areas of cooperation include support in establishing new centers for diabetes, cancer care and screening services as well as collaboration on neurosurgery, laboratory examinations for new medications entering the UAE, and bio-banking & genomics.

HE Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, said: “We are pleased to sign this MoU with Mubadala which will support our collective ambition to enhance healthcare provision in several key areas. This MoU is the initiation of a symbolic relationship between two organizations which are closely aligned on the vision of developing a world class and integrated healthcare network across the UAE. MOHAP and Mubadala will work together in order to find new solutions for existing healthcare needs of our country as both organizations strongly believe that a country's progress is defined by the health and happiness of its people. We look forward to our collaboration with Mubadala.”

Commenting on the MoU, Mubadala, Group CEO and Managing Director Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, said: “Our depth of expertise and knowledge in building partnerships to address critical areas of need combined with the Ministry's commitment to tackle key healthcare challenges will create new opportunities and solutions for the benefit of patients and the community. Our shared vision for a world class network of healthcare services ensures we are closely aligned to collaborate on this important program.”

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has been central to the rapid development of the Emirates' healthcare sector, putting in place policies, frameworks and investing in services that have had a major impact on the health of the Nation. Working together, the Ministry and Mubadala will form a joint steering committee to ensure progress on the key focus areas of the agreement.

Mubadala Healthcare has played an instrumental role in the creation of a thriving healthcare sector for Abu Dhabi and the UAE. By establishing partnerships with renowned international medical institutions, such as Cleveland Clinic and Imperial College London, it is actively investing to develop healthcare services that provide patients with world-class care on their doorstep. This experience and the collective knowledge of the assets in its healthcare network, place Mubadala in a unique position to join forces with the Ministry to achieve wider public health goals for the Emirates.
