The Japanese swimming legend & Olympic champion Rie Kaneto has announced that she will organize a training camp for Japanese swimmers with participation of swimmers from UAE at Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai during the upcoming period.

Rie Kaneto's announcement was stated during her visit to Dubai Sports Council's premises where she met with H.E. Naser Aman Al-Rahma, the Assistant Secretary General of DSC, in the presence of Mr. Ali Omar Al-Baloushi, Director of Sports Events Dept. in DSC / Mr. Abdulla Shahdad, Manager of Hamdan Sports Complex.

She was acquainted with DSC's eminent role to develop the sports sector in Dubai besides the remarkable increase in the annual sports events, taking place in the Emirate.

H.E. Naser Aman Al-Rahma briefed Rie Kaneto on DSC's role to develop the sports sector and its efforts to host & organize local & international sports championships and events / host top world championships / decide plans & strategies of work for the upcoming years in such way that supports the exercise of all sports among the various classes in society whether in community sports level or professional level. He also talked to the Olympic champion on medals, issued by DSC for the most prominent sports events; each of which dates back to civilized & historical landmarks of Dubai and remains as eternal memory with athletes from the various countries & continents of the world.

H.E. Naser Aman Al-Rahma presented to Rie Kaneto the English version of “My Story” a masterpiece book, written by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President & Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Rie Kaneto reviewed the Sports Events Guide (for a period of 10 years) and expressed full admiration toward the great architectural, tourist sports development in Dubai.

She confirmed that Dubai is a convenient destination for athletes, thanks to its various & several capabilities that make residence & exercise of training as a unique & enjoyable experience.

The Olympic champion remarked: “I am really impressed with the continuous development in Dubai. It is a beautiful & fascinating city as it enjoys several advantages which are not available in other cities. It provides full security & safety measures and enjoys a well-based infrastructure. Many Japanese delegations arrive in Dubai monthly as the distance is not so far & there is no big difference in timing, and therefore we do not suffer to move between the two cities”.

She added: “I have loved Dubai since my first visit. I had participated in the 2010 FINA World Swimming Championships, took place at Hamdan Sports Complex and since then I have been keen to visit Dubai regularly to enjoy its spectacular climate. Everything is interesting in this Emirate, and I find everything that I like including training & tourist facilities, hotels, shopping centers, fascinating beaches & appropriate destinations for the exercise of sport. I have also been surprised with the great numbers of sports events organized in Dubai. Accordingly, I am really thinking to reside in Dubai permanently, so that I can convey my experiences to this remarkable city, and I wish to contribute to boost bilateral relations between Japan & Dubai”.

Rie Kaneto has won 36 medals during her participations in all swimming championships; among which are 22 golden medals, 7 silver medals and 7 bronze medals. She has won the golden medal in the 200 M Women's Breaststroke Competition in Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016. In the swimming World Cup Championships, she has won 34 medals, among which are 21 golden medals, 6 silver medals & 7 bronze medals. She has also won one silver medal in the Asian Games & the Pacific Championship and she has gained one golden medal & one silver medal in the Universities' World Championships.
