When Music Rings in Harmony

After all the festivities, it was the concept of ‘peace harmonized by music’ that took centrestage at the Dubai Shopping Festival 2008. The Fourth Dubai International Peace Music Festival started under the patronage pf Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

It is the first time that a Dubai International Peace Music Festival is being held during a DSF edition. The music festival go on till Feb 22, during which competitions among different budding artistes will also be held.

The honours were done by Mohammed Al Mur, Chairman of Dubai Cultural Council and the works of Czech artist, Jana Kudsiova were put on display.

A peace concert by the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Riad Kudsi (who established the Orchestra in 1993) enthralled the audience while Ibrahim Saleh, DSF General Coordinator; and several other officials attended the event graced the occasion that was attended by a large number of visitors and music lovers.

The children who played in the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra were drawn from different countries in the world such as the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Ireland, USA, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, India, Sri Lanka, and Papua New Guinea, among many others. And together they represented a beautiful synergy of unity, peace and harmony.

Starting at 8:30pm, the Orchestra started on the note of the masters of Suzuki, Mozart, Schubert, Boccherini, Khachaturian, Brahms, Ivanovici, Smetana, Strauss, and Tchaikovsky. The symphony performance was followed by solo performances where the performers competed with each other.

On Feb 19, a recital for violin, piano, and cello, by the winners of the Arabian Competition, will be held at 8pm at the auditorium in American University in Dubai, next to Dubai Internet City.

On Feb 20, the Symphony Orchestra of Jan Neruda Music School in Prague will hold a concert in the AUD auditorium at 8pm. Feb 21 sees the Jan Neruda Music School perform in the auditorium at the Ministry of Culture in Abu Dhabi at 8pm.

The closing day on Feb 22, will see the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Jan Neruda Music School perform at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre in Mall of the Emirates, followed by the awards ceremony.

This year’s Dubai International Peace Music Festival is being held in cooperation with Dubai Cultural Council, the Symphony Orchestra of Jan Neruda Music School in Prague, and the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre.
