Dubai, UAE, Wednesday, January 9th 2013-Mr. Nesar Ahmad, President of ICSI , India formally inaugurated the First International Chapter covering Dubai / MEA of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India at India Club , Dubai on January 09, 2013 along with Mr. Sutanu Sinha , CEO of The ICSI , India and Mr. B.Narasimhan , Senior Central Council Member of The ICSI, India .
The President also announced the Managing Committee of the chapter as approved by the Central Council of The ICSI, India and members of the Committee led by Chairman Mr. Sunil Bahri who is the senior most Company Secretary from India in the region and is also the Secretary General of Dubai Quality Group, UAE.
The other members of the Managing Committee included Mr. Shahjahan Beyabani - Vice Chairman, Ashish Kumar – Secretary, Nandini Kaushal-Treasurer,Ritu Bahri-Member, Meeta Agarwal-Member, Andleeb Hamid Zuberi-Member and Vibhor Verma –Member.
The Chapter in Dubai is the First International Chapter outside India and is the 70th Chapter of The ICSI, the other 69 being in India. Dubai already is an examination centre amongst 122 examination centers. The number of current students exceed 330,000 and 47,000 students are on the verge of becoming CS members.
The President highlighted areas beneficial to Company Secretary profession in India and a growing number of opportunities available for the Company Secretaries professionals in India and globally.
Mr. Sunil Bahri, Chairman of the First International Chapter of The ICSI, India shared details of UAE federation formed in 1971 and pivotal role played by the Founding Fathers of UAE H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.H Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
He also shared the visions of the current rulers – H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai with all guests from India.
He highlighted details of Decree on code of Corporate Governance issued in 2011 covering all Profit and Non Profit organizations as well as a recent decision making it mandatory for all corporations and government entities to have Woman Director on Board.
Mr. Ashish Kumar Secretary of the Chapter and Ms. Nandini Kaushal, Treasurer of the chapter also spoke at the Event highlighting the provisions for company secretaries in the New Companies Act under consideration in Indian Parliament.
Mr. Shahjahan Beyabani, Vice Chairman of the chapter proposed a formal vote of thanks and shared with pride the tremendous progress and achievements of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
The event was attended by 74 + delegates comprising of professional members of Dubai Chapter of all 3 Indian Institutes of Company Secretaries , Chartered Accountants and Cost Accountants and other local professionals .
Food for thought was left with the invitees by ICSI on “Going Green – A Way that could change lives” by way of distribution of CDs on the topic.
