Thursday 21 June 2012 – 7.30 – 9.30pm
Part of the Alliance Française Fête de la Musique
10 June 2012: On Thursday 21 June 2012, Times of Arabia in Souq Madinat Jumeirah will welcome Mohamed Abozekry & Heejaz to perform their “Fusion Jazz” as part of the Alliance Française Fête de la Musique,. They will play sets between 7.30 – 9.30pm.
The quartet, who describe their music as “Oriental, Gypsy Jazz, Blues, Rock, Free Jazz”, are inspired by their diverse musical paths, and create a sound that has strong rhythmic and harmonic backing. The fusion of musical styles makes the band truly original. The band was born from a desire to exchange ideas based on their different cultures and knowledge base. They do not base their sound on a precise music genre but strive to create their own musical path – reflecting different atmospheres with their musical styles and playing their instruments in a non-conventional way.
Mohamed Abozekry is already well known across the Middle East as an “Oud prodigy” (Arabic lute). He studied and graduated aged 15 under the direction of Naseer Shamma, becoming the youngest professor in the Middle East. In 2009, he won the International Oud Competition in Damascus. He is also a member of the Eastern Orchestra.
In 2007 Mohamed met and began composing and arranging with Guillaume Hogan, combining oud and guitar which led to the formation of Heejaz. Along with Anne Laure Bourget who plays percussion, and Hugo Reydet who plays double bass.
