Sharjah – April 20, 2017: The Conares Golf Society League 17 final held at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club with the last two golf societies from around the Emirates left to decide who could become the winners of the best amateur tournament in the Middle East (2013-15). KEGS and Sport2Business (2) lined out their best squad of players to compete in this double match play betterball format.

Match one saw Chris Redley & Mike Townsend from the KEGS take on Michael Lennon & Peter Donaldson of Sport2Business (2) in the opening match. This match was led most of the way by the Chris & Mike. After the front nine the KEGS duo had a comfortable 3 hole advantage. Michael and Peter did all they could to get back in the game but evenly suffered a 5&4 loss leaving them in the hands of their team mates to force a playoff should they have any hope of taking home the title.

The second match for the Championship was Alastair Wooley & Marc Mccallum representing the KEGS & in the Sport2Business (2) corner was Shiraaz Joosub & Ron Barden. Two pairings which had been vital in their team's journey to the final. Shiraaz won the first hole for his team and gave them an early lead which they could only maintain for the first three holes, on the fourth hole the match went back to all square as Marc made a par whilst others in the group struggled. From this Point on KEGS moved forward holding a two shot lead most of the way through the back nine, on the 14th hole they advanced their lead and extended the gap to three. Shiraaz and Ron did all they could to get back in the match, pulling it back to only a single hole deficit after 17 hole. Alastair & Marc won the 18th to give them the match and confirm the KEGS as the 2017 Championships in a convincing 6 – 0 victory over the Sport2Business (2) team.

The third place match between Indian Expats & The Happy Hookers was another great set of game with the experience of the Indian Expats shining through over the last few holes to take both games. In the Captain's, Sponsors & Patrons Challenge which ran alongside the Final, Andrew Thom took the Overall title with an impressive 39 Stableford points, closely followed by Gurbax Singh on 38 & Ryan Glenn from the KEGS on 37 Stableford points.

Many thanks to all the Societies, Title Sponsors Conares, support sponsors BMW, SNTTA Travel and World Wide Golf for their continued support.
