Highlights Support Extended by UAE Leadership to Reading

Abu Dhabi-UAE: June 20, 2016 – In keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) hosted a lecture delivered by Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, prominent Emirati preacher and media personality from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments on the Importance of Reading.

The lecture aimed to promote the culture of reading and learning among ADFD staff in line with the directives of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to mark 2016 as the Year of Reading.

Highlighting the significant role that reading had played throughout history in bringing knowledge and enlightenment to mankind, the lecture stressed the paramount importance accorded to this activity by Islam that commanded its followers to seek knowledge through all means.

Al Dhaheri pointed out that promoting the reading habit is an urgent priority for any society that favors growth and development as reading helps people to understand other cultures and perspectives in life. Stressing the importance of reading in a child's holistic development, he urged parents to cultivate a love for reading in the minds of young children and added that encouraging reading is the responsibility of every individual - from family, to school to the community at large.

In his lecture, Al Dhaheri also highlighted the tremendous efforts of the UAE's wise leadership in promoting reading among members of society through launching many pioneering initiatives in the area. He underlined that it is top priority for the UAE to produce a generation that adopts reading as a way of life to support the country's overall development. Doing so will also enable upcoming generations to explore other cultures and benefit from their experiences.
