Medstar launches one of the largest Day Surgery Centres in the UAE

Medstar Day Surgery Centre introduces the concept on Same Day Surgery into the region; provides customers the convenience of receiving world class surgical care and discharge all within a day

Dubai, January 19, 2016: Medstar Day Surgery Centre, a state-of-the-art day surgery center, has opened in Dubai. Developed with the purpose of providing world-class surgery and healthcare for patients without the requirement of hospitalization or over-night stay, Medstar has adopted the emerging model of developed countries – day care surgery with outpatient consultation.

Medstar Day Surgery Centre is an advanced medical facility with cutting-edge infrastructure and unrivalled field expertise specific to day surgeries. The Centre provides customers the convenience of receiving complete surgical care and discharge all within a day.

Located in the heart of Dubai, the sprawling 20,000 square feet facility is the largest dedicated day surgery center in the UAE. Conceived, managed and designed by doctors and strategic healthcare investors, Medstar offers a one stop destination for surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Commenting on the launch of Medstar, Dr. Sajid Burud, Managing Director of Medstar: “The model of Day Surgery is a natural shift for a developing city like Dubai that has the vision and the leadership to become the most advanced healthcare destination in the region. We are certain this model of healthcare will soon become indispensable to the growing economy of Dubai owing to its incredible advantages and forward-thinking approach.”

Dr. Sajid also added: “Our expansion plans are already in place and our stakeholders have committed for a USD 100 million capital to support our long term vision in adding more day surgery centers in the coming years.”

Dr. Tarun Bhagchandani, Medical Director of Medstar, said “Medstar has the combination of exceptionally talented medical practitioners, cutting-edge infrastructure and equipment coupled with innovative surgical and pain management techniques. Our healthcare providers work with the passion and commitment to provide focused patient centric care. This service allows our patients to achieve the highest possible standard of treatment and personal convenience while saving cost and time. Medstar comes as an ideal solution for patients who do not require hospitalization.”

“Being the anesthetist, I take a greater moral responsibility to ensure our patients are treated well with better recovery and early ambulation. In Medstar, we have created a facility that offers world class amenities, not just for patients, but also for surgeons from around the world. We have received phenomenal response thus far, with some of the most renowned surgeons keen to visit us from the US, UK, Europe, India and other Middle East countries. We already have a panel of specialists on board who are experts in the field of aesthetic surgery, vascular procedures, cosmetic gynecology and hair restoration, to name a few.” Dr. Tarun added.

According to a report by Alpen Capital, UAE‘s medical tourism sector is growing strongly and reached US$ 1.69 billion in 2013 from US$ 1.58 billion in 2012. Dubai offers the world's largest healthcare free zone, Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC). According to DHCC, they handled around 500,000 patients in 2011, 20% of which were medical tourists.

Medstar is in line with the emirate's vision to attract 500,000 more medical tourists a year by 2020. In the first six months of 2015, Dubai witness 260,000 medical tourism visitors and made AED 1 billion in revenue off of medical tourism.

Medstar Day Surgery Centre specialises in an array of aesthetic and anti-aging procedures as well as overall health and wellness. The Centre is equipped with consultation rooms, operation theatres, procedure rooms, step down recovery rooms, private day-care cubicles and VIP rooms. In addition, the Centre also offers pathology and radio-diagnostic services as well as in-house pharmacy.

Medstar Day Surgery Centre will be operational from 9 am to 9 pm.
