Action For Nature (AFN) announced the extraordinary winners of its 2015 International Young Eco-Hero Awards competition. Among the 10 winners from all around the globe , there is only one from UAE , 16 year old , student of Delhi Private School-Sharjah, Arushi Madan, who has been making a difference through her personal actions and ability to inspire others.
Known as the “Green Machine” because of her great passion for the environment, Arushi takes every opportunity to spread awareness about the need to protect the environment and reduce waste. She visits schools with environmental videos and games, quizzes, and Green Talk sessions. She campaigns at food courts, cafeterias and high foot-traffic areas. She teaches students about the benefits of organic farming, has organized educational trips for youth to sustainable buildings and other “green” UAE sites, and has persuaded factories to recycle packing material. Spreading awareness with campaigns, events and workshops she has given motivational presentations to educate women, laborers and children. She plants trees and makes tables from recycled tyres. She is the President of the youth community group “Students for the Earth” and is also an Environment Ambassador to the Middle East-with Tunza Eco Generation (a joint venture between Samsung Engineering and UNEP). Believing in actions more than words, Arushi works at the grassroots level to set an example for others to follow. She is on a mission to inspire and empower more eco-warriors to get into action to lead us into a greener future.
Arushi has also received earlier the “International Diana award” and “Sharjah Environment Awareness Award” for her environmental efforts and leadership. She has also been featured as inspirational teen on www.inspiremyklids.com.
Arushi is also recently selected as inspirational young achiever for Commonwealth Young Achievers Book (CYAB) to be published in Aug 2015.
The organization AFN recognizes those inspirational youth from around the globe who are helping to create a better future for our planet by taking actions to address tough environmental problems. These Young Eco-Hero Award winners illustrate the creativity, energy and commitment of the current generation of environmental leaders and feel the urgency about protecting the environment. Their successes benefits our planet and people everywhere .
Every year since 2003, Action For Nature, a U.S.-based nonprofit, has sought to recognize and reward young people ages 8-16 who are taking action to solve the world's tough environmental problems. Each Eco-Hero Award winner receives a cash prize, a certificate of achievement and other benefits.
Action For Nature will celebrate the 2015 International Young Eco-Hero Awards at a reception at the San Francisco State University in San Francisco, California, on Saturday, October 24.
Awards like these encourage young people to take personal action to nurture and protect a healthy environment on which all life depends.
