Dubai is playing host to one of the world’s grandest fashion shows during the Dubai Shopping Festival 2008 with leading international fashion houses set to offer tantalizing glimpses to the latest haute coutre at the Madinat Jumeirah from Feb. 10-12
Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, and organized by the DSF Office in coordination with BurJuman, a DSF 2008 key sponsor, Dubai Fashion 2008 is the continuing link to a successful tradition that was established five years ago.
The event has been largely responsible for creating and maintaining a strategic fashion link for the Middle East with the flamboyant fashion industry in the West.
Ex super model Adriana Karembeu has brought her enchanting charisma and style to Dubai as she came as the guest for the launch of Dubai Fashion 2008. A pre-event press conference was attended by Adriana in addition to Laila Suhail, Chief Executive Officer of DSF, and a host of local, regional, and international media.
Suhail welcomed Karembeu in Dubai and had a few words to the large group of local and international media attending the event. “When DSF Office launched ‘Dubai Fashion’ five years ago, we had two main objectives to achieve, the first to position Dubai as a leading platform in the Middle East for the international fashion industry, and the second to stimulate the retail fashion sector in Dubai,” said Suhail.
“With the kind patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum, and the gracious cooperation of BurJuman, one of the leading shopping malls in the region, “Dubai Fashion” has become a well known international fashion event sought after by the biggest fashion houses in the world, thus achieving its set targets,” she added.
Karembeu expressed her joy for being in one of the most glamorous cities of the Middle East, “I am very honored for being invited for Dubai Fashion 2008, this event is attracting the attention of the international fashion houses and the media every where. Though my stay here is short but I will fully enjoy it”.
During the press conference, the DSF Office presented Karembeu with an Emirati shaila and abaya designed by one among the prominent designers, Salma Khan. She was then taken around a tour of BurJuman where she visited the Christian Lacroix and the Valentino stores after which she stopped at the Paris Gallery outlet.
The etoile group collections will take to the ramp on February 11, including creations of such renowned names like Karl Lagerfield, Christian Dior, Ungaro, Valentino, in addition to Stella Cadente and Michel Klein who will also be attending the show.
Ingie Chalhoub, Managing Director of the Etoile Group said, “Dubai is trying to seek its place on the international map and having a fashion week like Dubai Fashion helps a lot. Our aim is to make Dubai one of the most important fashion havens in the world. So much is happening here. With Dubai Mall coming up we will have high-end signature stores, something very similar to 5th Avenue. Dubai should be taken as an example when we talk fashion. This is what we mean by taking the fashion business here and Dubai Fashion to the next level.”
The launch of the first Etoile La boutique concept by Jacques Garcia, in 2005 marked a new era in the height of luxury fashion in the Middle East. The boutiques seek to further the role of the Etoile Group in refining women’s elegance in the region.
Fashion enthusiasts and observers will identify with the combination of experience and vibrant youth in the collections displayed during Dubai Fashion 2008; experience, as reflected through the collections of Christian Lacroix, and sheer pulsating liveliness through the collections of Barbara Bui and Stephen Rolland. The second day of Dubai Fashion will reveal this combination through the etoile collections that will include renowned global designers.
