March 19, 1995 - "Terrorist Attack" in Tokyo. Toxic fumes in a subway station escalated into a major mass casualty incident. As many as 565 people have been hospitalised and five people are confirmed dead.
Sept 11, 2001, - Hijackers crashed two commercial jets into twin towers of World Trade Centre, New York. An estimated 4,000 lost their lives.
December 13, 2001 – Terrorists invaded Indian Parliament building, killing nine people.
And the list goes on…
War is not a game. It is real lives ripped in half. Nothing can excuse or justify an act of terrorism, whether it is committed by religious fundamentalists, private militia, or a war of retribution by a government.
As Auden wrote in "September 1, 1939," as World War II commenced:
I and the public know
What all schoolchildren learn.
Those to whom evil is done
Do evil in return.
