Teacher Vs. Student

“Teachers should guide without dictating, and participate without dominating.”

Easy to say, but hard to practise.

Many teachers feel a need to rule in order to control their students. Gone are the days when the students used to be afraid of their teachers and the parents being supportive of the ways the teachers handled their students.

Today, kids are considered as individuals, just like an adult, who have their own set of thinking and ability to discern. Parents of today, also, in a lot of ways encourage their children's freedom of thinking and consider their feelings as important as anybody else's. So it comes as no surprise if they have raised their voice against the corporal punishment.

Do the teachers have a right to punish their students? They do. But, to a certain extent. Bodily punishments leave a mark on students' mind, which in fact might turn, into a negative effect.

One can be angry, but when we want to hurt others physically, we are angry and hurt ourselves. It's our own insecurities that come out when we hurt others.

So, shouldn't we as teachers or parents be more controlled of ourselves before we judge our students or children? Those bodily marks we make on their small bodies might fade away but would the marks we leave on their minds fade…? Today's children are tomorrow's promise…but, do we want to break that promise by our own faults…?

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove . . .. But the world maybe different because I was important in the life of a child."
-Kathy Davis

I read the article but i feel that punishment to some extend is not bad ,we punish our kids at home and teacher is like a mother to a child in school and to discipline the child some times its important to punish them . handling one child at home is different and a class of atleast 20 children is different is easy to say that teacher should not loose his control but when kids start dancing on the head is very difficult to stop them without punishment. Its not that they don't love the kids but they want them to be disciplined so that they have some principle in life and are more organized in life.

It is so true that whatever way we will behave with a child today might influence his life later, nowadays children are much aware of there surroundings then us and understand the behaviors of elders so we elders(teachers)better be careful.
