THE First Popular Boycott Conference, convened to streamline people's participation in the move to boycott US goods, was started on 13th May, 2002. Leading Arab researchers and activists discussed the various means and aspects of the boycott at the two-day conference. The conference was organised by the UAE National Boycott Committee constituted by the UAE Journalists Association. The committee had earlier launched a popular campaign for the boycott of American goods on May 4 as a means of persuading the US to change its policy of supporting the Zionists and their repressive measures against the Palestinian people in the Occupied territories.
The conference is the first of its kind and the various sessions have been devoted to discussing the framework of the boycott, its economic, social, political and cultural aspects, Arab boycott experiences, and international boycott experiences.
