The WSIS Awards is a unique international competition that was developed in response to requests from summit participants to develop an effective mechanism for assessing individuals, governments, and civil societies as well as local, regional, and international agencies, research institutions, and private sector companies, given the remarkable success of implementing development-oriented strategies, drawing on information and communication technology (ICT) as an enabling element for development. The Awards are an essential part of the evaluation process at the Summit, which was first held 2004, and were first held in 2012, acquiring since then a high degree of interest and popularity within the ICT community for development.
DLD launched Dubai REST, the world's first smart platform, at Cityscape Global 2018 in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to consolidate Dubai's position and leadership, and for the Emirate to be the smartest and happiest city in the world.
